Well over 500 font packages are available through Synaptic
Go to Menu > System > Synaptic Package Manager
Provide your password and click [Authenticate]
Search for fonts- for the full list of 500+ font packages
Or search for xfonts- if you only want console fonts (50-75 of those available)
Click the one(s) you want and select “Mark for Installation”
Click the [Apply] button near the top of Synaptic
Click the Apply button on the bottom right of the pop-up
The installed font is available immediately. Here the font is shown, in LibreOffice Writer, shadowed and outlined.
Alternatively, install through APT
Get a full list of the fonts available
Open a Terminal [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[T] and type:apt-cache search fonts | grep '^fonts-'
Or, for just console fontsapt-cache search fonts | grep '^xfonts-'
Install a font or collection via aptsudo apt install fonts-name-of-font-or-collection
Refresh the font cache withsudo fc-cache -fv

The “core” Microsoft non-free font collection (Andale Mono, Arial, Arial Black, Comic Sans MS, Courier New, Georgia, Impact, Times New Roman, Trebuchet, Verdana and Webdings) is available through APT as well
Get the whole collection
Open a Terminal [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[T] and type:sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
During installation; you will be greeted with a impossible-to-ignore EULA agreement.
[Tab] to <OK> then [Enter]
[Arrow Left] to <Yes> and [Enter]
